There’s not much worse than seeing your child undergo treatment with a dental drill when it could have been avoided. That’s right—dental cavities can be avoided. In fact, our dentist, Dr. Kent Nuttall, and our dental team have the tips you need to keep your child’s smile free from cavities, and we are happy to give them to you!
The first tip is to encourage your child to brush twice a day and floss once a day. This is important because oral hygiene can remove decay-causing substances from the smile on a regular basis. So, make sure your child uses a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste (only this type of toothpaste if they are older than 3 years old) and easy-to-use floss to clean their smile regularly.
The second tip is to make sure your child visits our dentist every six months for their routine dental cleaning and exam appointments. This is important because the treatments Dr. Kent Nuttall and our dental team will provide can deeply clean the smile (removing decay-causing substances that the oral hygiene routine can’t remove) and strengthen the tooth enamel (which can ultimately prevent cavities).
The third tip is to avoid sharing saliva with your child. This is important because sharing saliva means sharing decay-causing bacteria. This can quickly promote the development of cavities. So, please avoid sharing utensils, toothbrushes, food, and drinks with your child.
